teen cooking project

Berlin, Germany

A project for teenagers both native and new to Berlin, which addressed issues of inclusion, skill training and community building. We provided a safe space outside of the classroom for teenagers with a refugee background to meet and work alongside teenagers native to Berlin, giving both groups the opportunity to learn from one another.

Every Thursday we met at the KitchenHUB at Über den Tellerrand where we prepared, cooked and shared a meal together. Like our participants, the meals we cooked came from all over the world, allowing us to share our cultures and expand our understanding of each other. We encouraged openness and curiosity to bridge our encounters and build our own community in the kitchen. Our goal was thus that teenagers leave the project satiated with new skills and insights to share in society as well as with an expanded relationship to food, their community and themselves.
